Kumerahou & Carrot Soap
Kumerahou is a shrub native to New Zealand that grows in the top half of the North Island. It produces an abundance of yellow flowers in spring that is said to mark the planting of the kumara season.
These flowers when mixed with water produce a natural foaming soap as the flowers are high in saponins. In pioneering days the gum diggers in the far north used these flowers to clean the sticky gum off their hands, hence the plants colloquial name ‘Gumdigger’s Soap’
Maori herbal medicine noted it as a healing agent for wounds, sores and rashes and was taken internally for a wide variety of respiratory ailments and as a natural bitter to support liver function.
For this soap, Kumerahou flowers, leaves and carrot pulp has been infused in olive oil and also blended into the soap for a light exfoliant. To this we have added an essential oil blend of Peru Balsam, Orange and Juniper. This gives the soap a light woody and warm vanilla and citrus scent.
