HERBAL HAIR & SCALP TEA RINSES
Herbal infusions have been used for a very long time to naturally soften hair, increase manageability and restore lustre. Certain herbs play a big role in achieving this and it is something we can all get back to growing and using instead of reaching for that next bottle of chemicals and artificial scents we call shampoos and conditioners.
My favourite blend of herbs are listed below and can be used on your hair and scalp anytime - it is a great tonic to help soothe scalp irritations, preventing dandruff and as a leave in conditioning spritz on freshly washed hair. They can be used on their own or in conjunction with a mild shampoo bar.
Creating your own herbal hair rinses are easy and should be encouraged. The recipe or herb blends are not set in concrete. If you only have access to a few herbs then that is a great start. Below is a list of herbs we use. For convenience we have a dried blend that is package into tea bag form.
Plantain - is high in mucilage. It coats and softens the hair shaft and provides slip for detangling.
Nettle - is said to be a remedy for oily hair, dandruff, and hair shaft breakage. It stimulates the scalp, improves circulation
Horsetail - The silica in horsetail helps to keep hair strong and adds shine and lustre to hair.
Burdock Root - again rich in mucilage, it helps maintains and promotes a healthy scalp, encourages hair growth, improves hair strength and adds body and shine.
Rosemary - encourages hair growth by improving blood flow to the scalp to stimulate hair growth and increases manageability
Chamomile - is used to soothe the scalp. It adds highlights to fair hair, a sheen to dark hair and conditions and softens.
