ABOUT US

Established in 2018 the Te Puke Soap Company's aim was to make all natural soaps with no nasties.

It all started in a space that connected the garage to the house that got affectiontely known as the soapery. It was situated in Pongakawa, a rural area near Te Puke in the Bay of Plenty. The predominant foot traffic on our road were cows. It was a nice start to the business.

The name Te Puke means 'the hill' so it is fitting that I now am surrounded by bush clad hills -  my partner and I recently relocated to Picton and obviously the business came along too.

Making soap was always on my bucket list and is a very therapeutic pastime. Made in small batches from scratch, a careful recipe of infused oils and lye are mixed together - from there the alchemy of making soap happens. It is a slow but rewarding process.

Our range is found on-line here and at the soapery at 36 South Terrace, Picton. Follow our Facebook page for opening hours. They vary due to manufacturing but we are happy to accomodate you if you wish to visit outside of these. Small group visits are welcomed.

We also have a stockist in Te Puke - All Sortz at 89 Jellicoe Street, so please do support them.

Cheers for now, Meg

WHY YOU SHOULD USE HANDMADE SOAPS

  • High Quality – Handmade soaps contain nourishing oils, butters and other skin-loving ingredients not commonly found in commercially produced bars. Using therapeutic grade essential oils and only natural colourants - these soaps are great for people with sensitive, dry or irritated skin.
  • No Synthetic Detergents – Unlike many store bought bars, handmade soaps don’t contain detergents that can irritate or strip moisture from you skin.
  • Natural Glycerin – Handmade soap contains glycerin, a natural humectant and by-product of the soap making process. Commercial soap makers often remove glycerin from their soaps, selling it for separate use in lotions, creams and pharmaceuticals. Since it retains the full amount of glycerin, handmade soap leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturized.
  • Choices – The variety of handmade soap available is vast. We like to use thereaputic botanicals, herbs and flowers, making use of natures bounty and the seasonal changes.
  • Support Small Business – Buying handmade soap helps support small business. Your purchase of handmade soap makes a difference by benefiting local economies and improving the lives of people in your community, people like me.
